Hi all,
As perhaps some of you know, I've always been a fan of food, and as I've lived a long time in Asia, the much exalted noodle soup is one of my favorites. Every country has their own style, and while perhaps japanese is my favorite, I've always adored the simplicity of a good Thai noodle soup. Now however I'm in Myanmar, and I have been eager to sample their national version, known as Mohinga. However, street stalls here are a bit different to those in Thailand, all the noodles sit outside, exposed to the smog and dirt of the street, and it is difficult to know how to order, particularly as I know very little Myanmar! We have also been a bit wary of getting a bad tummy as we are teaching full time. Still, on the recommendation of some fellow teachers, we took the plunge and have sample a few versions at a local shop. Here are some pictures! We've eaten there two weeks in a row and no bad tummies have occured. Also, it's quite tasty, very rich and spicy, with quite an explosion of flavor. Todd likes the fried bread they cut up into it. Sometimes it comes with an egg, sometimes not. We could also order it dry if we wanted.
Otherwise we are also doing well, getting exercise at the fitness center in our place, and meeting some of the locals (Todd seems to make a new friend every time he steps out the door without me). We hope all of you are well!
love, Meghan
