Holiday Time!

Hi all,

After a whirlwind couple of weeks wrapping up the school year, break has come and we’ve returned to our lovely hut in Thailand. Above you see some pictures of my students doing their Native American reports, the Christmas tree from Todd's room, and then a shot of Todd setting up the hut.

It’s nice to be back in Thailand, and have a chance to reflect on the school year. I really feel I did pretty well, but I also know I want to try to do better. I know I can’t do everything perfect the first time, but I’m trying to take notes and reflect so that I’m on top of it next year. The students are definitely learning, but there’s definitely more we could be doing as well. The challenge is to remember to use appropriate adaptations for non-native English speakers, and not treat them as if they are totally fluent. Sometimes it’s easy to forget, as their spoken English is so good, yet this does not always translate into good academic English.

Now we’re back at our hut, and due to some very kind friends who cleaned it in anticipation of our arrival, it’s already quite livable. I was reminded a bit of going to Jim and Sue’s cabin in Canada, and how there was always a period when we had to bustle around and get the place in order so we could have fun for the week. Similarly, we have to do some shopping, get things put in the proper place, and then we can start enjoying!

Hope you all have a good holiday!
Love, Meghan
